Gamespy is one
of the most commonly used server browsers used by gamers all over
the world. It basically proves a link between you and the game
servers saving you a lot of work searching for servers to play on.
Gamespy will display hundreds of servers, each giving statistics
like the number of players on them, and the all important 'ping'
time.
Without getting technical the ping time is the 'speed'
at which you'll play the game. A lower ping time will resort in a
more faster game. A ping of 200 or less is the figure you are aiming
to play on. People with isdn connections will typically be around
70-100, while modem users should achieve 130-200.
It usually makes sense to use an internet service
provider or dialup which has good network connections to the server
you intend to play on, for example, if you are playing on a
BarrysWorld Server, our own dialup http://www.barrysworld.com/info/barrydial.asp
provides a low, stable ping for both ISDN and modems.

download GameSpy (1.50MB): ftp://ftp.barrysworld.com/misc/gamespy/gamespyinstaller223std.exe
Once you have the GameSpy installer fully downloaded
onto your computer, double click it. You will then be led through a
few screens to help you install GameSpy. It will even detect if you
have old versions of GameSpy installed and will update them.
You'll find a shortcut to GameSpy on your
'desktop'. Double click it to load GameSpy. A small menu will popup.
Click 'Continue'. The first screen has
links for registering GameSpy, but you don't have to. GameSpy will
work perfectly well without registering :).
Adding a game to GameSpy This should have
been done for you, but in case It's not detected any of your games
or you install a new game later on, here's how to add a game:
1. (The easy way): In GameSpy click 'GameSpy', then 'Rescan
for Games'. 2. (Also allows you to check full
list of games supported): In GameSpy click 'GameSpy', then 'Games and
Filters'. Now select the game you want to add to GameSpy.
You'll be prompted to find the directory the game is installed
in.
