Counter Strike - In Game
Note: To save me a lot of typing,
Terrorists = T, Counter-Terrorists = CT.
The HUD (Heads Up
Display) The image of the HUD below has hotspots. Move
mouse over the areas you want to find out about :).
Other HUD Icons
Hostage Rescue Zone This is the
place where you'll lead hostages to, to rescue them :)
 Defuse Kit Indicates you are
carrying a defuse kit. These can be bought by CT's in scenarios which
involves bombs.
The Bomb (C4) In bomb scenarios
one terrorist will be given the bomb at the start of a game. This icon
indicates your carrying it.
 FPS Counter (Frames per
second) If you turn the counter on ( /cl_showfps 1 at the
console) then in the top left of the HUD your FPS count will be
displayed.
The 'Buy Menu'
Once your in your own buy zone, like you will find
yourself in at the start of a round, you will be able to press your 'buy
menu key' (Default B). You'll be faced with the menu as shown on the
left.
Always remember. You only have 60 seconds to buy what you need. There's
no going back for more ammo, or more grenades.
If any item is greyed out it will mean your side (T or CT) does not
have access to that weapon.
You can buy one primary weapon, one secondary, one HE grenade, one HE
grenade, two flash grenades, and a few items of equipment.
Note: The menus above are the old versions that can be seen when
you turn off the vgui menus (click here for more
details). Although there should be no need to turn off the vgui menus as
they are more attractive than the versions above :).
Radar The
radar which can be found in the top left of your HUD allows players to see
approximately where their team mates are. Here's what you will see on the
radar:
Turn it off: hideradar Turn it on: drawradar
So type, "hideradar" to remove it. "drawradar" to see it :)
Purple dots: A team mate on the same
level as you. Purple T shape: Your
team mate is a level above you. Purple upside
down T shape: Your team mate is a level below you. Yellow Square: When a team mate has activated a
radio command. Red Dot: (Escape/Bomb
scenarios only). Indicates to the CT players the location of the VIP in
the assassination scenario. Or in a bomb/defuse scenario it shows location
to all terrorists of the bomb carrier.

Example1: Taken from a Escape
Scenario Game. (2 players on my level, 1
player a level below me, and 3 players on the level above
me) |
Example2: Showing a player
activating a radio command. (All players are
on levels below me) |
Radio
Commands Communicating with other players is easy in CS.
Not only can you talk to everyone in the game (default y key), or just
talk to team mates (default key u), you can play radio messages to your
team mates! There are 3 groups of radio commands as shown below:

A radio command command once activated is also displayed
like:

Note: The menus above are the old versions that can be
seen when you turn off the vgui menus (click here for more
details). Although there should be no need to turn off the vgui menus as
they are more attractive than the versions above :).
High
Jump To jump a bit higher than normal press jump then
crouch straight after. This allows you to reach crates and things you
can't jump onto by just pressing normal jump key (default space bar).
The
Torch As well as providing light the torch (default
key F) can be used to signal to team mates. Some players use a quick
on/off action of the torch to signal 'ok' to team mates. Or to get them to
look at a certain direction.
It's never a good idea to use torches near the enemy held
areas. Your team mates will hate you if you light them up like a christmas
tree with your torch and they wasted by the enemy because of it. If in
doubt leave the torch off. :)

Map
Voting New to beta6.5 is the ability for players
to vote for maps.
1) Type "listmaps" at the console
to see a list of maps on the server + the map numbers 2) Type "votemap x" at the console where X = map number.
Once 50% of the players on a server have voted for the same
map, the map will change.
Vgui
Menus New to beta7.0 are the vgui menus. These
help form the in game menus you'll see. You can see a list of all the vgui
menus here.
