BarrysWorld Guides -
Counter Strike Version 1.0
What is Counter Strike? Simply put it's a counter-terrorist mod, however it's a question I've been asked by a large number of people, and I'm sure it's being asked all over the world. You see this MOD is not being played solely in the UK or US. It's being played by countless numbers of players from a vast range of countries. Although Quake, Unreal Tournament, and other well known games are played around the world, counter strike (CS) is one game where you are guaranteed to find a lot of foreign players all playing simultaneously forming teams of Terrorists, and Counter-Terrorists who fight it out to either secure a key mission objective, or wipe out the other team. This game is big, and due to it's form of play it's not like any other first perspective shoot them-up. Running into this game like Rambo will see you die many times. It takes time, and patience. Together with this guide you'll soon pick up the things you need to know to excel at counter strike. Be you a novice or experienced CS player I plan to bring you everything you could possibly need here ready for you 24 hours a day :) Recent Updates - (recent 6 or so shown) ====================================== The end?
:( - Updated by
S.A.S, Monday 22rd January 2001 (Due to the BW website getting a lot of hits, the full press release can also be seen here. And the official one here.) This means I and everyone else at BarrysWorld have lost their jobs, and the guides will soon go offline. Since they are owned by BarrysWorld I won't be allowed to reuse them until a few things are sorted out (no ETA). Although I hope they resurface in some form or another, especially the counter strike guide which I've built up as the CS community grew, and it has become my most popular guide to date (receiving 8000+ page views a day). I'm happy to have done all of this guides work, and having helped countless players with gaming issues. I'd like to thank everyone who helped contribute bits of content for the guides. This just leaves me to say good bye. :( Scott Grenney "S.A.S", BarrysWorld Content Author, Guides editor, Columnist and Community liaison.

Updated by S.A.S, Wednesday 3rd January 2001 My boxed version of CS arrived today (it has only just come out here in the UK), so I'll be having a look at all the changes from the downloadable version. One change I've noticed is the weapons have all been renamed to alternative names, BUT fear not for after testing I've found one simple text file can change the names back to their real names thereby making the boxed version of CS match the free downloadable one :) Details on how to do this can be found here. Updated by S.A.S, Tuesday 2nd January 2001 A lot of you have been asking where you can get past and custom CS maps. After a bit of searching I found this excellent site: http://www.halflife.net/counter-strike/download-html/maps/dm_life1.html It's also now linked off the maps section on the cs guide :) Updated by S.A.S, Monday 18th December New content added including:
Updated by S.A.S, Saturday 11th November The CS guide has now been updated to cover version 1.0 changes. I also had to redo a lot of the images on the guide because of the new player models in CS. Added: Details on the 3 new weapons. More images. Still to come: 1) Full update to the CS manual. 2) Completion of the maps section, and 3) a page dedicated to gamers who will buy CS from the box set. I'll be including info on what changes they will face if (I should say when :)) patches are released for it. Also if you want to see my review of CS version 1.0 you'll find it hidden away on my column here: www.barrysworld.com/news/columns.asp?Author=37&Category=5

Changes Note: There are some issues with the new animations. I spoke to Gooseman, and it seems he to is not happy about the way they have turned out. Hopefully changes will be made, because from the reports I'm hearing at the moment all point out the new animations suck :(. Expect more details + a full update to the CS guide ASAP. July MASTER:
hlmaster.barrysworld.com:27021 Updated by S.A.S, Monday 3rd
July " ...The new tweak configs have had a
few alterations over the past few days what with the new valve patch out
and CS 6.6, so I set to work finding the best tweaks I could as usual.
I've had a few people moan about the fact they were lpb and couldn't seem
to hit anything so I had a little play around and gave the resulting cfgs
to players and they were happily amazed to find they were hitting the mark
again. More details here on version 2.1 of his configs, which have been tested and reports have been very good can be found here :). Web site designed
